This scenic Alpine village has preserved its charm with traditional wooden chalets, set in a wide valley with the mountains dominating the skyline. Kandersteg has the quieter and unhurried feel of a resort not yet on the skiing map, however for the beginner and intermediate skier it offers great value and a good range of skiing, although it is less challenging for the thrill seeking advanced skier. Kandersteg is an ideal place to wind down and enjoy the unspoilt scenery. The lötschen Valley comprises of two relatively small ski areas, Oeschinen and Sunnbühl. The combined lift pass allows free use of the ski buses and train between these areas. Oeschinen, with wonderful views up to the Bluemlisalp mountains, is based around the mountain lake (famous for ice- fishing!) and is excellent for beginners and intermediates. There are 9km of prepared pistes with snow machines on hand to ensure continuous good skiing. There are also two cosy mountain restaurants to discover. The last 800m of the long toboggan run down to the village is floodlit every night Sunnbüel, is a delightful ski area which is reached by cable car and is set on a plateau at 2,000m. With 6km of normaly quiet prepared pistes it is ideal for families and beginners. There is a mountain restaurant with great views of the winter landscape - not only a unique experience for downhill skiers but also for cross-country skiers and winter hikers. Resort FacilitiesSki School Group lessons mornings Monday to Friday at Oeschinen. No kindergarten but children from 3yrs are accepted for ski lessons. Skating & Curling Ice rinks for both skating & curling as well as badminton. Cross country skiing The Lötchberg region offers the third largest cross country ski region in Switzerland. With up to 90km of prepared pites, including the beautiful high mountain pistes at Oeschinensee and Sunnbüel.
