Gstaad has been attracting the rich and famous for many years. A picturesque village at intersection of two valleys and surrounded on three sides by the alpine mountains of the Bernese Oberland. The centre of Gstaad is traffic free and has an interesting array of smart shops, galleries and restaurants. Visitors can ski a very extensive area ‘Gstaad Mountain Rides’, which is divided into six areas and covers over 250km of pistes up to an altitude of 3,000m.
Children under 9 years ski for free!
Gstaad Mountain Rides comprises independent ski regions up to 3,000m. There are 62 different lifts and a total of 250 km of pistes, various sled rides, snowparks and hiking routes. Included is the Glacier 3000 - the only glacial area in the Bernese Oberland - with guaranteed skiing from October until the beginning of May.
Wispele & Egglii both areas are a paradise for beginners with wide ski pistes, cosy mountain restaurants and unrivalled sunny terraces. Freeriders will enjoy two runs from Wispile down to Gstaad- Grund. Also from Eggli there are further descents near the Röstigraben leading to the Videmanette in Rougemont. Modern snow machines permit spectacular ski conditions.
La Videmanette this is a real alpine mountain! Whilst all the other ski areas in the Gstaad region are renowned for their gentle, pleasurable pistes, the Videmanette offers more challenging pistes with a real alpine kick around ‘le Rubli’. There are various bars and restaurants. The connection over the “Röstigraben” to the Eggli promises an additional spell of fun.
The Wasserngrat is the smallest area of skiing in Gstaad. In return, however, it offers you two very unique experiences: the Tiger run, which is the most spectacularly steep piste, and its mountain restaurant, which is the only one around that has been awarded Gault-Millau points. Efficient snow machines provide for excellent amounts of snow.
The Rinderberg is the largest skiing area around, with over 105 kilometers of pistes, it connects Zweisimmen with Schönried, Saanenmöser and St. Stephan. An attractive circuit over three mountain tops, through three valleys ensuring you don’t ski the same slope twice - this takes approximately two hours provided you do not stop the experience at any of the numerous snow-bars or restaurants on the way. The new slope connection between the Rinderberg and Lengebrand is the core part of the Rinderberg Ronda.
St. Stephan-Lengebrand The terrace high above St. Stephan entices you to stay, by the wide open pistes that surround it and by its perfect position, facing the sun. A real find for people who love ski huts is the Chemistube, a rustic hut at the Lengebrand middle station.
Saanersloch and Hornberg The snowboard community hangs out at the ridge of the Saanersloch, where the snow parks are situated and where they can take advantage of a range of freeride possibilities. The Hornberg area has numerous blue and red pistes and a variety of restaurants and mountain huts.
Horneggli is renowned for its exciting pistes of easy to medium difficulty. This mountain, with its spectacular view, outdoor terraces facing the sun, and lively ski bars, is particularly loved by the young, the old who are young at heart, and families. Highly efficient snow machines ensure a long ski season.
Rellerli is pure pleasure for those who wish to bask in the sun whilst enjoying the stunning view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau all the way to the Diablerets, without the tumult of the masses. This mountain offers a variety of wide pistes (easy to medium difficulty) as well as numerous winter hiking routes.
Glacier 3000 is the only glacier in the region and is ski-able from the beginning of October until the beginning of May. No fewer than 24 four thousand meter high alps can be seen from the Glacier. With a 11 km long piste, the Glacier boasts the longest skiing descent in the region.
