Davos

Switzerland's premier resort with over 300km of prepared pistes

The magnificent high Alps that surround Davos and
Klosters offer skiers of all standards a wealth of
opportunities in a ski area that covers over 300km of
prepared pistes and ample ‘off piste’ skiing. Just look at the
choice available on the ski maps.
Another advantage of this area is that it is only about
2½ hours from Zurich airport to Klosters or Davos so they are ideal
resorts for a short break as you can leave the resort for your
homeward journey late afternoon and this can give you an extra
day’s skiing on the final day of your holiday.

Five large areas spread out on either side of Davos with over 300km of prepared pistes headed by the Parsenn. The Parsenn is also the main ski area for Klosters, whilst above Klosters are the south facing slopes of the Madrisa at 2,602m. Whichever area you choose to ski, one lift pass will cover you for all of the areas in both Davos and Klosters.

The Parsenn (Davos & Klosters) This is the largest ski area and is reached by a two stage funicular from Davos, where you can start your day’s skiing or take the further funicular to the Parsenn itself. There is a speedy Six seater chair lift from the middle station up to the Weissflujoch at 2,680m. From Klosters the Parsenn ski area is reached by the Gotschna cable car from the centre of the village. From the top of the Weissflujoch funicular there’s a wide choice of superb runs down five different valleys for the intermediate skier. The ‘black’ runs over the moguls from up at the Gipfel at 2,840m above the Weissflujoch offer more of a challenge. The 12km piste down to Klosters or Kublis starts at the Weissflujoch or Gipfel and descends over a variety of terrain until you reach the Schwendi in the woods where there are two beautiful, rustic mountain restaurants and if it’s lunch time you must try the rösti. This is a superb long run, although not particularly difficult. From the Schwendi it’s about 1km to ski down to Schifer for the gondolas that bring you back up to the Weissflujoch. Several mountains restaurants and lively snow bars. At the end of the day you can ski the 4km back to Davos. There’s also a lovely ski run back to Klosters at the end of the day. A superb ski area that you will return to again and again during your holiday.

Jakobshorn A cable car from Davos Platz takes you to the summit at 2,590m where there is a wide choice of runs above the tree line for all grades of skier together with four fast chair lifts. A fast 2 seater chair lift from the valley also offers an alternative access to this ski area. Bramabuel at 2,492m is reached by a drag lift and its runs connect with all other pistes on the mountain. Plenty of excellent mountain restaurants and ‘watering holes’ spread all over the mountain. The Jakobshorn is one of the most popular haunts for the snowboarders with a half-pipe available and in fact the Snowboard Championships are held here every March. The Jakobshorn can also be reached from Klosters by taking the train up to Davos Platz station which is right next to the Jakobshorn cable car.

The Pischa - Switzerland’s largest freeride region. In recognition of the growing popularity of ‘freeriding’, the Pischa area served by the Pischabahn cable-way and the Mitteltäli and Flüelamäder ski lifts, now features three marked pistes made safe from Alpine dangers but are unprepared - the ultimate powder-snow experience for freeriders and snowboarders!
Another two prepared ski runs and the existing winter-walking path, fun park and Kindergarten remain. This area is reached by a frequent ski bus in ten minutes from Davos.

Rinerhorn The free ski bus running through Davos brings you to the Rinerhorn in about ten minutes and a six seater gondola takes you up to Jetzmeder where there's a restaurant with large sun terrace. Ski lifts take you up to 2,435m and on top of The Ski Area Davos 1,540m – 2,590m The Grisons Klosters 1,200m – 2,850m one chair lift is a lively snow bar for some refreshments before you start your descent. A beautiful long, but comparatively easy run to the bottom ‘station’.

Aprés Ski

The very lively apres ski scene makes Davos particularly attractive for party people. With a wide choice of pubs and clubs, piano bars and discos you try somewhere new every night of your stay. Or find one you like and go back again and again. There’s usually a great atmosphere at the Postli Club with live music & dancing and a variety of other night spots in the resort have live music. There is also a wealth of discos whilst cosy stüblis and piano bars offer a more relaxed atmosphere. For the best fondue visit the Gentiana, or if you fancy a ‘flutter’ there is a gaming room at the Hotel Europe. The younger generation seem to favour Cava Grischa. On your way home from the ski slopes try hot chocolate and pastries at Café Schneiders and Kaffee Klatsch. One evening go and cheer the Davos ice hockey team or take a horse drawn sleigh ride out into one of the side valleys that lead off from Davos.
